PRINCETON — Curves For Women has a new owner.

Angelika Thompson of Princeton bought Curves For Women, located at 105 S. Main St., Princeton, Suite 4, effective Jan. 1.

Thompson had previously worked at the Princeton business for four years and bought the Curves franchise from previous owner Tanya Oeder. Thompson said she received a lot of on-the-job training with Oeder. Thompson and a staff member will go to Texas in March for additional training by the Curves organization.

“I loved working here and when the chance came up to buy the business, I thought it was a great idea,” Thompson said. “This is where my heart is, and this is what I love to do.”

The Curves program is a fitness program, not just for weight loss, Thompson said. The 30-minute full-body workout includes 22 stations, using various machines focusing on leg exercises, chest and back, abdomen, biceps and triceps.

“Everyone should exercise. Everybody needs to strengthen and tone. Everyone needs a healthy heart,” Thompson said.

Most doctors recommend exercise, but some people with medical conditions should consult with their physicians before signing up for the program.

“It’s a simple plan. The individual is the one in charge of her workout,” Thompson said. “But we are here to watch and make sure everyone is doing the exercises and using the machines correctly.”

Her recommendation is for people to come at least three times a week, Thompson said. People may come just once a day. Each session takes 30 minutes. People sign up for a one-year commitment. A minor must be accompanied by her mother.

“We are very family friendly,” Thompson said. “Some people come here with their friends. Others come by themselves, but they leave with new friends. It’s a great way to get to know people.”

The hours for Curves are now expanded, Thompson said. New hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays.
