SBA students learn CPR
PERU — The generosity of attorney Durley Boyle of Hennepin remains a blessing to the students, faculty and staff of St. Bede Academy. Recently Boyle donated equipment for the Academy to use to teach their students, faculty and coaches important life-saving skills. It is his desire that school officials are properly trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and have an automated external defibrillator in place.
The equipment was acquired through the diligence of Joan Fernandez, RN, BSN, OCN of Illinois Valley Community Hospital. She is a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association and IVCH, an official training center for the association. The donation from Boyle included adult and baby CPR manikins, additional books and equipment.
Fernandez will return to the Academy in a few weeks to train health instructor John Bellino and his staff in the Heartsaver CPR in Schools course. Upon successful completion of the course, Bellino will be qualified to teach faculty and coaches. Bellino will also teach CPR in his freshman PE/Health classes and then recertify them junior year. The Heartsaver AED CPR certification card is good for two years.
