Donald Bennett

OGLESBY — Donald Eugene Bennett, 74, of Oglesby died at 10:16 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Born June 10, 1933, in Mineral to Ferdinand and Frieda (Bickers) Bennett, he married Juanita Monroe in 1957. She died March 16, 1988. He then married Lois Entwistle in 1996. She died March 12, 2004.

He worked for Coca Cola Bottling in Peru and Kewanee for 44 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the LaSalle-Peru Elks, Princeton Elks, Oglesby American Legion, LaSalle VFW, Peru Eagles, Spring Valley Sportsmans Club and the Bureau County Basketball Hall of Fame.

Surviving are five daughters, Carol Schmidt and Nancy Bennett, both of Oglesby, Linda Karczewski of Peru, Donna (Terry) Burrell of Spring Valley and Kimberly (Bob) Becker of Princeton; two sons, David (Lorrie) Bennett of Spring Valley and Curtis (Linda) Bennett of Oglesby; one brother, Ronald (Marilyn) Bennett of Emerson, Wash.; one sister, Annette (Larry) Townsend of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, in the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Betty Delgado of Trinity United Church of Christ in LaSalle officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery with military honors by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veterans Memorial Group.

Visitation was held Monday in the funeral home.
