Hall High School students in music contest

SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School students competed in the Illinois High School Association’s solo and ensemble contest on March 1.

Several band students received Division 1 ratings, including: Angie Lequia and Valerie Shrimplin, flute duet; Mat Dobson, Brandon Kingry, and Mike Taliani, percussion ensemble; Lequia, flute solo; Audra Loveland, French horn solo; Brandon Kingry, snare drum solo; Ashley Whatcott, piano solo; and Steven Hammer, trombone solo.

Students receiving Division 2 ratings were: Ashley Gonzalez and Kayla Metzger, clarinet duet; Michael Colmone and Bryce Quinn, trumpet duet; Chad Hamrick, Natasha Jensen, Steven Hammer and Cory Narczewski, brass ensemble; Mike Taliani, percussion solo; Ashley Gonzalez, bass clarinet solo; Mat Dobson, drum set solo; Natasha Jensen, piano solo; Kelsey Haslam, violin solo; and Richard Metzger, tuba solo.

Valerie Shrimplin received a Division 3 rating on her flute solo.

Exceptional ratings were given to Audra Loveland for her perfect score on her French horn solo, which also earned her the “Best of the Day” award in her room, and the percussion ensemble of Mat Dobson, Brandon Kingry and Mike Taliani also earned a perfect score for their performance.
