NCIC's two divisions to cross paths

The NCIC ball teams have gone their separate ways with divisional ball the past two seasons. But this weekend, the Lincoln and Reagan teams will meet in the annual NCIC Crossover Series in both baseball and softball.

The baseball action will be held at different sites, while all the softball will be played in Rock Falls.

In baseball, the No. 1 teams from each division will face the No. 2s with the winners to face one another along with the losers in a doubleheader. That will put Lincoln leader Rock Falls against Reagan runner-up Ottawa at the Peru Armory and Reagan leader Streator vs. IVC at Washington Park.

The remaining teams will be matched up based on standing in their division, playing nine-inning games at neutral sites. Fourth-place Princeton of the Lincoln will face Geneseo at Spring Valley, while sixth-place Hall heads to Ottawa to face Dixon. Other games have L-P vs. Mendota at IVCC and Sterling vs. Kewanee at Mendota.

Softball pairings were determined by straight standings match-ups with No. 1 vs. No. 1, etc. Coin tosses were needed to break ties atop the standings in both divisions of softball.

Princeton, fourth in the Lincoln, will face Reagan counterpart Sterling at 9 a.m. Lincoln’s No. 3 Hall will take on Geneseo at 11 a.m. Top seeds went to IVC (Lincoln) and L-P (7-2), both by the coin flips.

• College bounders: Hall standout Jordan Petersen, who homered under the lights Monday against Princeton, said he’s planning on playing baseball for Aurora University next year. He said they are just working out the financial aspects.

St. Bede’s Jordan Ebener recently signed to play baseball for Fontbonne University in St. Louis.
