Managing high crop prices, financial risk

PRINCETON — Information about risk management decisions will be in store for participants of the upcoming seminar set for June 11. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Wise Guys in Princeton. A continental breakfast will be served. The event is co-sponsored by Cargill and Bureau County Farm Bureau.

Steven Johnson, Ph.D., will be the speaker for the event. Johnson serves Iowa State University Extension as the farm and ag business management specialist in Central Iowa. He specializes in topics related to grain marketing, government farm programs, crop insurance, grain production contracts, storage and related risk management strategies.

He presents annually at more than 80 meetings, workshops and conferences across the Midwest with over 8,000 in attendance. This past year, he is referenced in articles that appear in Successful Farming, Farm Journal, Farm Futures, Top Producer, Grain Journal, Growing Point, Wallaces Farmer, Dakota Farmer, Prairie Farmer and Ag Professional magazines.

Topics discussed during the seminar will be: 2008 and 2009 Crop Price Outlook, Utilizing Risk Management Tools, Crop Marketing Strategies, Developing a Marketing Plan, 2009 Input Buying Considerations and Working Capital Challenges.
