Road work begins in county
PRINCETON — Bureau County is designated to receive about $16 million for road work to start in the 2009 fiscal year.
Sen. Dale Risinger (R-Peoria) said a total of $67.1 million has been allocated for 66 road and bridge improvement projects in the 37th Senate District, which includes, in part, portions of Bureau, Henry, LaSalle and Putnam counties.
The total Illinois road plan for the 2009 fiscal year, which starts July 1, 2008, is nearly $2 billion.
Risinger said the largest of the local projects is an Interstate 80 project, from the Henry County line to east of Illinois 40. The $13.1 million project includes resurfacing, bridge new deck and bridge repair work on the 9.55 mile stretch of interstate.
Another $1 million will be spent to resurface 4.48 miles of the Tiskilwa Spur, from the south edge of Princeton to north of Tiskilwa.
The state has allocated $930,000 for cold milling and resurfacing on 4.34 miles of Route 34/6, from north of the Buda Road to 0.5 mile north of the IAIS Railroad in Sheffield.
The District 37 work also includes $500,000 for preliminary engineering costs for a project on Illinois 26, from 0.1 mile south of Red Covered Bridge Road to Interstate 80.
Other local road projects include $330,000 for culvert replacement on Illinois 40, at Spoon River Creek, south tributary No. 2, for 7.2 miles south of Route 6, as well as another $270,000 for resurfacing and cold milling on 0.83 mile of Route 34, from Illinois 26 (North) to Sixth Street in Princeton.
The District 37 projects also includes $175,000 for jurisdictional transfer costs for the New Bedford Road, from the east corporate limits of New Bedford to Illinois 40, as well as another $27,000 for jurisdictional transfer costs for New Bedford Road, from Main Street to east corporate limits. Both projects are dependent upon jurisdictional transfers.
Finally, the 2009 fiscal year projects also includes $170,000 for the resurfacing and cold milling work on 0.73 mile of Illinois 26, from Red Covered Bridge Road to Interstate 80, westbound ramps.
