Sandwich to Galesburg, bargains await ...

Experience a drive into the heartland of rural, scenic America offering a continuous 143-mile stretch of sales including treasures, food and special promotions.

As you drive from Sandwich to Galesburg you will experience miles and miles of sales. We’ve all heard the adage “one man’s junk is another man’s treasures.” This event brings people together to barter and haggle over things that may have been stored in a garage or an attic for years.

Original founder of event and owner of Aunt Daisy’s Bed and Breakfast in Kewanee, Glen Schwarm, said, “Heading into our third year people who participate as vendors/tourists will benefit greatly from the unified effort of area visitors bureaus to promote this event.” Schwarm said this year Friday has been included, making this a three-day event offering many opportunities for things to do during the weekend.

If you plan on staying over, you might want to consider a few of the other events happening like Mendota’s Railroad Days and Sheffield’s Homecoming. Watch for sightings of Elvis in Galesburg and Abe Lincoln in Wautuaga.

At the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton, a two-day flea market will be from 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon on Saturday and Sunday. There will be free admission, indoor and outdoor vendors, restrooms and concessions available.

Vendors will be selling collectible coins, dolls, antiques, furniture, collectibles, toys, books and much more. A Lionel Train exhibit will be set up in one of the exhibit halls.

If you have always wanted to do a garage sale but live where nobody could find you, this is a perfect opportunity to sell your stuff. For only $20, you can set up outside and sell your items right next to your car.

Throughout the More on 34 event, most vendors will sell from 8 a.m. to dusk on Friday and Saturday and sales will close around 4 p.m. on Sunday. Each vendor is able to set their own hours since there is no organized effort on established hours. For vendor information, map, lodging and community information check out moreon34.com.
