Joe and Nancy Zearing scholarships awarded through Methodist church

PRINCETON — For the second consecutive year, the Zearing Scholarship, given in memory of Joe and Nancy Zearing, through First United Methodist Church, has been awarded to three graduates of Princeton High School. The scholarships went to Annalise Eckberg, Douglas Faber and Kylie Merth. The scholarships are $500 each and based on church involvement and academic performance.

Annalise Eckberg has served First Methodist Church in Journey to Jerusalem, as a junior leader for Sonsational Kids and as a member of the media team. She has been on mission trips for six years and has been an acolyte, nursery assistant and Natural Church Development Team member. She is the daughter of Tim and Deb Eckberg of Princeton and granddaughter of Anna Roadhouse of Weaned.

Eckberg was Princeton High School valedictorian, maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Her school activities include tennis, concert choir, Star-Spangled Singers, Madrigals, band, First class, National Honor Society, Lifesavers, Big Brother/Big Sister, and News Tribune staff. This fall she will attend Purdue University to study pharmacy.

Douglas Faber’s church activities include Youth Group, Sunday School, Journey to Jerusalem, Vacation Bible School junior leader for four years, Chime Choir for four years, Elm City Bells for four years and church landscaping.

At PHS, Doug was recognized as All Academic/All conference for four years in both tennis and soccer. He was also on High Honor Roll four years and a member of German Club. In the fall, Faber will attend Augustana College to study business and will also join the tennis team. He is the son of Martin and Linda Faber of Princeton and grandson of Mrs. Halcyon Faber of LaMoille.

Kylie Merth was a member of Sonsational Kids from the earliest grades and a junior leader. Her other activates include worship team, bell choir, mission trip, youth group, Journey to Jerusalem, nursery assistant and special music.

Merth was a four-year member of poms and senior captain and choreographer, student council, member of track and cross-country teams for two years and honor roll. This fall she will attend Illinois State University to study nursing with an emphasis in psychology. Kylie is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Merth of Princeton and the granddaughter of Roger and Joann Swann of Princeton.

Joe and Nancy Zearing were long-time members of First Methodist Church.
