Spring Creek takes a sip of the Illinois Valley Cup

The inaugural Illinois Valley Men’s Cup is underway. Spring Creek hosted the latest round on June 29.

There is a weekly team winner, and the IV Cup team champions will be crowned after five weeks.

Mendota leads the standing through three weeks with 8,900 team points. Spring Creek is second at 6,537.5. Other clubs include Shady Oaks, Deer Park, Edgewood, Pine Hills and Oak Ridge.

The lowest four scores from each club are combined each week. Each club is allowed to enter a field of eight course members each tournament totaling 56 golfers per event. Clubs can keep the same or interchange their field of eight players every event, depending on personal schedules.

Chad Callan of Deer Park is the individual leader with 5,778.13 points. Spring Creek’s own Gary Blanco shared first-place honors in Cup play at Spring Creek with Brian Lehr (Pine Hills), Brian Hanson (Mendota) and Josh Kays (Edgewood) with rounds of 75.

• Caddy shack: Members of the Princeton High School boys’ and girls’ golf teams helped caddy for Monday’s John Deere Classic PRO-AM golf meet. It’s used as a fundraiser for the golf programs, and though it was a hot day, PHS coach Roger Lowe said his girls did a great job.

PHS girls and their touring pros include Alyssa James (Jason Dufner), Gwen Holmes (Jamie Sadlowski), Kaitlyn Ribar (Jason Knutzon), Sammie Young (Robert Gamez) and Alizabeth Fiorini (Jay Delsing).

Lowe also said the pros were very nice to the girls, especially Jay Delsing.

Members of the boys’ team included Noel Nichols, Collin Slattery, Cody Cumpton, Calvin Baker, Brandon Poss, Aaron Quanstrom, Adam King and Blair Bickett.

• Chip shots: Class winners for Tuesday’s Wyaton Ladies Play of the Day for Most 4s, 5s, 6s were Judy Farley (A), Barbara Brumbaugh (B) and Beth Bick-erman (C). Bickerman and Dorothy Oaks had chip-ins. ... Kirk Towne and Fred McCauley claimed the first half championship of the Monday night 2-man league with a 4.5 point lead over Gary Lucas and Ron Shemwell. Rich Michael and Howard Miller teamed for low net of 26 with Rob Watson taking low gross at 36. ... The senior men’s tour will travel to Lakeview Golf Course in Sterling on Monday.
