HOLLOWAYVILLE — Chad Hamrick, 17, received the award of Eagle Scout on June 22 at the Hollowayville United Church of Christ during an Eagle Court of Honor conducted by BSA Troop 1055, chartered by the Harold E. Russell American Legion Post 938 in Ladd.

The ceremony included the bugling of the Call to Colors by Lt. Douglas Narczewski of Spring Valley, followed by the raising of the American flag by the Ladd American Legion members. Eagle Scout Eric White of Cherry served as the Master of Ceremonies. The ceremony was well attended by a gathering of family, friends, fellow church members, Boy Scouts of Troop 1055 and community members.

Chad currently serves his Troop as bugler and junior assistant scoutmaster. He has completed 21 required merit badges, with a total of 37. He successfully completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review on April 6 and Leadership training at Ingersoll Scout Reservation in London Mills on June 7. His Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project has provided the Hollowayville United Church of Christ with a gazebo that overlooks the church’s cemetery. He planned and managed the construction of the gazebo, walkway, landscaping and lighting to ensure that all members of the church and their families could safely walk into or stand in the cemetery for prayer or thoughtful meditation. He raised the funds necessary to complete the project and supervised 47 volunteers, with a total of 707 hours until its completion in August 2007. He dedicated the gazebo to the Hollowayville United Church of Christ on Oct. 14, 2007.

Chad is the son of Paul and Trina Hamrick of Spring Valley. His grandparents are Thomas and Delores Sobin, and Donna Hamrick, all of Spring Valley. He is the great-grandson of Esther Helm in Spring Valley. He will be entering his senior year at Hall High School in Spring Valley, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club and Band. He plans to attend college and study in the field of psychology.
