PHS hires staff

PRINCETON — The Princeton High School Board hired two new staff members at a special meeting Monday at the high school.

Superintendent Kirk Haring made the recommendation to hire Andy Berlinski as dean of students and Kim Garland as special education/Spanish teacher. Garland will teach two-thirds of her time in the special education department and one-third in the Spanish department.

Both Berlinski and Garland come to Princeton from the Bureau Valley High School. Both were in the Bureau Valley District since 2005.

Garland taught special education and Spanish at Bureau Valley. Berlinski had served as social studies teacher and coach at Bureau Valley and had planned on becoming the new assistant principal and athletic director at Bureau Valley, before making his decision to come to PHS, Haring said.

Haring described Berlinski and Garland as quality educators who will be an asset to the PHS district. The two new employees join four other new staff members hired for the 2008-09 school year.

“We are very excited about all our new staff,” Haring said. “With the new staff and our returning staff, I think we will have a very good squad this year.”

Present for the five-minute special board meeting were board members John Young, Gary Hanna, Jane Fredenhagen and Gary Coates. Absent was board member Bob Jesse.
