PRINCETON — A different type of event has been added to the annual Beef & Ag Days celebration. In years past, an annual car show was held at City-County Park in Princeton, hosted by the local Lions club. In the spring of this year, the Lions Club decided to no longer host this annual event. Scott Bickett, a member of the local car club, Illinois Valley Cruisers, decided he didn’t want to see this event end. So he volunteered to take over this event, but with some changes. Bickett decided to hold instead a car cruise, later in the day, as not to contend with the heat at the park. The cruise will be held in the LCN parking lot in Princeton from 5 to 9 p.m., with the sole purpose of raising money for the Tri County Food Pantry. A 50/50 drawing will be held, along with goodie bags, door prizes and a few awards chosen by Princeton Police Chief Tom Root, Princeton Fire Chief Gary Hanna, a representative from the Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce and Main Street, and Mayor Keith Cain, as well as a few committee choice awards. A donation of $5 is required by all participating cars. A muffler rapping contest with a cash prize to the best sounding exhaust will also be given along with a cash prize to the car club with the most members in attendance. 3D sound DJ service will be on hand to play music through out the night. The cruise is open to all antique cars, street rods, customs, trucks, classics and motorcycles. “The unique thing about our cruise is that we will be giving out custom silk screened dash rags instead of dash plaques and each will have a Bible verse inscribed on it,” Bickett said. The free event will feature all beef burgers and hot dogs in keeping with the theme for the weekend. More than 100 cars are expected to attend. |
