An Arlington man was killed in a crash Thursday on Route 6.

Dusten N. Maves, 30, of Arlington was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. at the accident scene by Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.

According to Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson, emergency personnel responded to reports of a two-vehicle traffic crash involving a semi trailer and a passenger van at 6:57 a.m. Thursday on Route 6, one-fourth mile east of the Interstate 180 interchange.

According to a sheriff’s office accident report, Maves was traveling westbound on Route 6 when his 1993 Plymouth Voyager went into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with the eastbound 2001 International semi trailer driven by Stephen L. Warren, 58, of Wyanet.

Immediately following the accident, the semi trailer caught fire. Warren was able to get out before the cab became engulfed in flames. Maves was extricated from the van by emergency personnel. Extrication took about one-half hour.

Fire departments responding included Princeton, DePue, Seatonville and Malden. Also on the scene was Princeton EMS, Bureau County sheriff’s deputies, Illinois Department of Transportation employees, and the LifeFlight helicopter from Peoria.

The Princeton Fire Department remained on the scene until 9 a.m., when the semi trailer fire was completely extinguished.

Warren was transported to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley by the Spring Valley 10/33 Ambulance Service. He was treated and released.

No tickets were issued in the crash, according to a sheriff’s office accident report.

The crash remains under investigation by the Bureau County sheriff’s office. There will be an inquest conducted by the Bureau County coroner’s office.
