BV registration
MANLIUS — Bureau Valley Unit District 340 will hold district-wide registration from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 6-7.
All Bureau Valley students are to register at Bureau Valley High School, including all special needs students who are residents of Bureau Valley but attend classes in another district.
Due to all parents/guardians registering in one building, parents/guardians are requested to not bring their elementary or preschool children to the registration with them, if at all possible; however, all high school students are encouraged to attend in order to verify the accuracy of their schedules. Upon entering the high school, parents/guardians will be directed to separate stations for the building their child will attend.
All students entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade are required to have complete physical examinations, as well as evidence of having had proper immunizations. This year’s incoming sixth-graders are exempt from the state ruling due to having had their physicals last year for fifth grade. Students entering Bureau Valley District from another district for the first time are also required to present complete physical exam forms and immunization records and a certified birth certificate. Hospital certificates cannot be accepted.
The Bureau County Department of Public Health will have a nurse present from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to provide any immunizations needed by any students. The cost of each immunization is $10; however, the cost is covered by medical card, public aid or for anyone who is unable to pay the cost due to hardship. No one will be denied service.
State mandate requires all students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grades to have completed dental examinations.
The Bureau County Dental Clinic will hold a dental sealant clinic from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at the clinic, 526 Bureau Valley Parkway, Princeton. You may call (815) 872-1927 for an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted until 5:30 p.m. The program, which includes school exams, cleanings and sealants, is provided for children who qualify for free and reduced lunches, children with public aid, KidCare, All Kids or children not covered by any private dental insurance. Call (815) 872-1927 for more information.
All students registering will need to present a social security number and a 9-1-1 address if applicable. The 2008-09 student handbooks and district policy on the administration of medicine will be distributed. The random drug testing policy for all students in grades 9-12 who will be participating in any extra-curricular activity will also be distributed.
The Bureau Valley District participates in the statewide Direct Certification Process for free/reduced meals. Parents need to present their eligibility certificate showing their family’s eligibility for free/reduced meals at registration. Parents who have not received this form from the state but wish to apply for free or reduced lunches for their children will be given application forms at the time of registration.
Admission to kindergarten in Bureau Valley schools is based on chronological age. To be eligible, a child must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1. Students must present a certified birth certificate before they can attend school.
Parents may desire to postpone entrance of a child who meets the age qualification. District personnel will be available to counsel parents in making the decision.
Registration forms for the Bureau Valley North and Wyanet Pre-K programs have been sent separately to families by mail. Families are to fill out the form and gather necessary paperwork (physical, immunization record, lead screening and copy of certified birth certificate) and return the packet at registration time.
An orientation session for all incoming freshmen and new transfer students will be held at the high school from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 12. During the session, students will be activated into Edline so they will be able to receive school news and grade reports via the Internet.
