
Created: Tuesday, July 29, 2008 12:00 a.m. CDT Updated: Wednesday, May 20, 2009 1:55 p.m. CDT John BrandstatterHENNEPIN — John D. “Jack” Brandstatter, 84, of Hennepin died at 12:48 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born May 19, 1924, in Seatonville to John and Darlene (Colver) Brandstatter, he married Nora Van Cleave of Bureau Feb. 3, 1952. She survives. He flew 30 missions over Europe as a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1973 with the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war he worked with his father in the family plumbing, heating and hardware business and his sons, Ron and Rodger, later joined the firm, Brandstatter & Sons Plumbing and Heating in Hennepin. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Granville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Mohammed Shrine and Granville United Church of Christ, and was involved in the Hennepin Betterment Association, Lions Club and Hennepin Park District. Also surviving are three sons, John (Chris) of Pueblo West, Colo., William (Vonna) of Vienna, Ill., and Rodger (Diana) of Hennepin; one daughter, Linda (William) Browning of Conifer, Colo.; one daughter-in-law, Loretta Jean of Granville; two brothers, Ralph (Joan) of Tampa, Fla., and Donald (Nancy) of Lacon; one sister, Lois (Frank) Etheridge of Mendota; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald; one grandson, Marty; one brother, Robert; and two sisters, Helen (Don) Clemens and Betty Lou (Richard) Hilner. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, in the United Church of Christ in Granville, with the Rev. Ron McNeill officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Hennepin. Visitation and a Masonic service were held Monday in the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel, Granville. Memorials may be directed to the Granville Masonic Lodge, Granville United Church of Christ or an organization of the donor’s choice. |
