PRINCETON — Jonathon Henegar was going to visit Illinois College and invited classmate Kyle Anderson to come along for the ride. Both liked the Jacksonville campus so well, they decided to stay.

The Princeton Tiger teammates, who have grown up playing ball together on the Princeton ball diamonds, will make a double play at Illinois College to play for the Blueboys’ baseball team this coming school year.

“We both just enjoyed the school. They have a real nice campus and we’re going to play baseball, so that will be fun,” Anderson said. “I really enjoyed the coach.

Coach Jay Eckhouse’s Blueboys posted a record of 18-13-1 this spring. Illinois College, a liberal arts college of 1,000 students, is a member of the Midwest Conference and competes at the NCAA Division III level against colleges and universities in Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Henegar earned three varsity letters on the diamond for PHS and alternated between second base and the pitcher’s mound. He served as co-captain for two years and received honorable mention by the Bureau County Republican. He also played for the Tiger basketball team.

Anderson garnered two varsity letters as a catcher for Princeton and served as team co-captain for one season. He was playing this summer for the Princeton team in the Illinois Valley Men’s League until injuring his thumb.

Anderson said Eckhaus told them they both have a real good chance of playing a little as a freshman and increase their playing time down the road.

Henegar, a four-year honor roll student, is the son of Jeanne Henegar of Princeton, and he plans to major in elementary education.

Anderson, who is also a four-year honor roll student, is the son of Tim and Paula Anderson of Princeton and is planning to major in business.
