Rounds wins IV junior tourneyBy Kevin Hieronymuskhieronymus@bcrnews.comNine champion golfers were crowned in Monday’s Illinois Valley Junior Golf Tournament at Spring Creek Golf Course. Hall High School ace Nick Rounds, 16, the 2007 BCR Player of the Year, captured top honors in the 16-18 division with a winning score of 77, two strokes ahead of Ottawa’s Tyler Bernardoni. Other local winners included John Potthoff of Spring Valley, for ages 6-8, 31 (5 holes), and Cherry’s Rebekah Dagraedt for girls ages 12-13 with a round of 51. James Mautino of Spring Valley for ages 6-8 (38) and Cole Evenson for ages 9-11 (47) took seconds. There were 69 participants. • Tiger Classic: The 12th annual Princeton High School Booster Club Tiger Classic fundraiser, sponsored by local Country Financial agents, will be held Aug. 23 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with a noon shotgun start. Dinner will follow at 5 p.m. Entry forms are available at Hunter’s Ridge. The teams of John Garvin-Greg Rowley and Roger Lowe-Bill Bangs-ton each had low nets 26. Lowe and Bangston lead the second-half standings by 2 1/2 points over Jason Fox and Watson. Long putts went to Mike Prendergast (No. 9) and Watson (No. 2). ... Randy Wright had low gross 36 and shared low net with Max Halberg Sr. at 30. ... Kay Dever had low gross 42 and Jan Booker low net 30 in the ladies league. • Hunter’s Ridge: Inez Hale had low gross 48 and Sheila Rithmiller low net 33 in ladies league play this week. • Chip shots: PHS girls’ golf coach Roger Lowe got a round of golf in at ISU course in Normal with IHSA broadcast partner Kurt Pegler and former Normal U-High coaches Cal Hubbard and Bob Morris. ... Princeton’s Kyle Castner finished second in the News Tribune golf tournament, which concluded Sunday at Senica’s Oak Ridge, four strokes behind three-time winner Jeremy Debernardi (143). ...
