Four-legged exhibition to be at PAC
PRINCETON — Princeton’s Prairie Arts Center (PAC) will feature a special one-weekend exhibition sponsored by Princeton’s “Friends of Strays” on Sept. 27 and 28. All 32 of the dog and cat sculptures which have been on display throughout Princeton will be re-united in this show, along with the original artists’ drawings for the projects. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to see all of these sculptures together once again,” said PAC Art Director Dana Collins. Bonnie Doty, president and director of the Friends of Strays Shelter, is organizing the exhibition. “We intended these imaginative works to be of interest to everyone during this past 10 weeks, and this will be a final opportunity for people to see all the dogs and cats before the auction,” Doty said. Donna Bloomquist, member of Friends of Strays and an organizer of the project commented, said “Created by talented Illinois artists, the sculptures include whimsy, beauty and wit in their designs. The artistic styles and techniques are as diverse as they are delightful, and each sculpture is a unique and original piece.” More than 45 area businesses, professional groups and individuals have sponsored the construction of these sculptures. The fundraising auction of the works, which will benefit the Princeton Friends of Strays, will take place the following weekend, Oct. 4, at the Wise Guys banquet facility. For more information on gala auction reservations, call (815) 872-7387. The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception, set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 27. The exhibition is free of charge and will also be on view from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28. The Prairie Arts Center is located at 24 Park Ave. East, Princeton, across from Soldiers and Sailors Park in downtown Princeton. |
