Vintage car tour to stop in PrincetonBy Donna Barkerdbarker@bcrnews.comPRINCETON — The city of Princeton is on the tour line-up for the 13th annual MotorIoway 1000 Tour. Erika Robbins, executive director of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce and Main Street, estimated about 125 people and 75 vintage cars will make a lunch stop in Princeton between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Darius Miller Park on North Main Street. The public is invited to the park to see the vintage cars and talk to their owners, Robbins said. Kramer’s Catering will provide lunch options at the park. Robbins said she’s excited for Princeton to be a stop on the MotorIoway 1000 Tour. “This is a great opportunity to expose new people to our community, and it’s also a fun thing for our community to do during their lunch hour,” Robbins said. The MotorIoway 1000 Tour began Sunday in Coralville, Iowa, and will end Saturday in Springfield. This year’s tour , with a theme of The Presidential Tour, will honor four U.S. presidents who were born or spent a major portion of their lives along the tour route. On Monday, the caravan stopped in West Branch, Iowa, birthplace of Herbert Hoover and the site of Hoover’s grave and presidential library. The group spent Monday night in Galena, where Ulysses S. Grant lived for years. Before coming to Princeton, the caravan will stop in Tampico and Dixon, birthplace and hometown of Ronald Reagan. After leaving Princeton, the group will travel to Peoria for the night. The Presidential Tour will conclude with two days at the New Salem State Park and in Springfield, where various sites dedicated to Abraham Lincoln will be visited. |
