HCE meeting

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Home & Community Education Association will hold its annual International Night celebration at 6 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church.

Guest speaker Marilyn Haslam will share her experiences in the country of Belgium.

There will be a potluck supper featuring Belgium cuisine prepared by HCE board members. Everyone is invited. All members and visitors are asked to bring a dish to pass and table service. Reservations are not necessary. For more information, call Joanne Pfaff at (815) 872-3106.

Retired teachers meet

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Retired Teachers Association will meet at noon Oct. 16 in the Princeton Public Library. The speaker for October is state Representative Don Moffitt. Reservations for lunch must be made by Thursday by calling Elaine at (815) 879-4021. Spouses and guests are welcome.

Fundraising auction

PRINCETON — A fundraising auction of the 32 dog and cat sculptures, which will benefit the Princeton Friends of Strays, will take place today, Saturday, at the Wise Guys banquet facility. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for viewing and the silent auction. The live auction will start at 8 p.m.

Library book club

PRINCETON — The Princeton Public Library Book Club will hold its next meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday in the community room of the library. The group will discuss “The Shadow Catcher” by Marianne Wiggins. Anyone is invited to join the group in discussing the book.

Jim Lattin 5K

PRINCETON — The eighth annual Jim Lattin Scholarship Fund 5K Fun Run/Walk will be today, Saturday, on the grounds of St. Bede Academy. The race is a featured event during homecoming weekend at St. Bede. The event starts at 9 a.m., with pre-race registration ending at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $17 the day of the race. Net proceeds from the event go directly to the Jim Lattin Scholarship Fund, which awards a yearly scholarship to a local student who will be starting St. Bede in the fall. Fall car cruise

PRINCETON — Illinois Valley Cruisers will hold its annual fall car cruise from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Saturday, at Darius Miller Park. The cruise-out is at 8:45 p.m. Entry fee is $5. There will be a $100 muffler rapping prize. Music by 3-D Sound. Rain date will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
