A'Seret Dokubo

CARBONDALE — Southern Illinois track and field athlete A’Seret Dokubo and diving athlete Gareth McGee were honored as 2008 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars named by the Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine in the May 29 issue. Dokubo, a sophomore from Schaumburg, daughter of Teresa Colby-Dokubo and Dr. Igoni Dokubo and the granddaughter of John and Betty Brokaw of Tiskilwa and the late Gerald Colby, was one of 25 athletes named to the women’s track and field first team. A member of both the track and field and cross country teams at SIU, she is a radio/television major and carries a 3.94 cumulative grade point average. This spring she was named to the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team.

To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
