Elmer SchnickeBOYNTON BEACH, Fla. — Elmer H. Schnicke, M.D., 97, of Boynton Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, in Boynton Beach, Fla. He was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He came to Chicago in the late 1930s for his medical training. After meeting his wife, who was a nurse where he was interning, they married and moved to Wyanet to set up his practice. During that time he served in the Army Medical Corps for three years overseas during World War II. In 1962 he moved to Madison, Wis., and practiced clinical medicine at the university for five years. The following eight years he served in many positions for the state of Wisconsin. From 1973 to 1979 he served as chief medical officer for the defense nuclear agency on Johnston Atoll. During his life in Illinois, he was on many boards for Perry Memorial Hospital, was past president of Illinois Medical Society and past president of staff at Perry Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the Wyanet VFW, past master of the Masonic Lodge in Wyanet, the BPOE Elks in Princeton, consistory of Shrine in Madison, Wis., and a member of the Old Timers Club at Sheboygan Falls, Wis. He was a committeeman for Boy Scouts of America, a national PTA member, post surgeon VFW, Wyanet High School Board for eight years, in charge of medical defense program and head of local board of health. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Linsen, who he married Feb. 14, 1980; one son, Loren Schnicke of Merritt Island, Fla.; one daughter, Muriel Casey of Lady Lake, Fla.; two grandchildren, Catherine Scheiman of Virginia and Matthew Schnicke of Florida; three great-grandchildren, Christina Hoggard, Grace Zeh and Margaret Zeh, all of Virginia; and two great-great-grandsons, Silas Hoggard and Miles Zeh of Virginia. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine “Kay” Schnicke, in 1960; one son, Philip Schnicke, in 1970; two brothers, Alfred and Herbert; four sisters, Emma, Regina, Betty and Lorna; and one grandson, Bill Colombo, in 2008. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Presbyterian Church in Boynton Beach, Fla. Burial will be in the Sheboygan Falls Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. |
