Shirley's Treasures opens in SheffieldBy Lyle Gantherlganther@bcrnews.com
SHEFFIELD — Shirley Cole and her son, Mark, opened Shirley’s Treasures in the oldest building on Main Street in Sheffield at 108 S. Main St. on Sept. 20. “My mother did craft shows, antique shows and flea markets for 15-20 years,” said Mark. “It got to be a little much hauling all of the items back and forth from shows on the weekends so we decided to open a shop.” Shirley has tons of Christmas items such as artificial trees and decorations in the two-story building they have opened their store. She also makes a lot of the holiday items she sells at her store. Mark helps his mom run the store as his time permits because he is also a property manager. The Coles have lived in Sheffield for two years, after moving from the Oregon, Ill., area. “We hope to make a go of the store because I am not physically able to travel as much as I used to,” said Mark. Shirley’s Treasures is open Tuesday through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prior to the store opening, the building’s landlady, Mary Cernovich, had painted the building and put in new windows, said mark. “It has a lot of character with wooden floors and open ceilings,” he said. “It fits into what we want to have for our store.” The second floor of the store is currently all Christmas items even though the Coles have more items at their Sheffield house that can’t be displayed at the store due to space constraints. “There isn’t enough room in the store for all the items we have,” said Mark. “We do have something for everyone here.” Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com. |
