Discussions canceled
SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield Book Club will not hold its monthly book discussions in November or December due to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The group will resume the discussion on Jan. 21, 2009.
Turkey party
SEATONVILLE — St. Gertrude’s Parish Club will host its annual Feather Bingo Party at 6 p.m. Sunday in the parish hall in Seatonville. Twenty-four games of bingo will be played with a 10- to 12-pound turkey prize for each winner. The event will also include door prizes, a 50/50 and refreshments. Christmas dinner
DEPUE — The DePue/ Bureau County Democrats will have its Christmas dinner for all members and their guest at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at the DePue VFW Hall in DePue. Anyone planning on attending should call Carol Greathouse at (815) 447-2974 for reservations, which are needed by Nov. 28.
Cookie sale
LAMOILLE — The Ladies Social Circle of the First Congregational Church of LaMoille will have its annual “Granny’s Sweet Shoppe” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 6 in the church fellowship hall. A variety of homemade Christmas cookies, cut-outs, date pin wheels, black raspberry, sour cream nut crescents, pecan tassies, almond crescents, thumbprint, springerles will be available. The cookies will sell for $6 a pound. Also on display and for sale will be their “LaMoille Coverlets.” The coverlets’ theme, “LaMoille, a Family Community ... A place to Live, Learn, Worship,” is depicted through 13 detailed pictures of LaMoille’s churches, schools and historic buildings. For more information, call Lois Beattie at (815) 638-2176.
Book club to meet
PRINCETON — The Princeton Public Library Book Club will meet at 4 p.m. Dec. 11 in the community meeting room at the library. The group will discuss “Nineteen Minutes” by Jodi Picoult. The staff at Princeton Public Library will be glad to assist anyone in borrowing this book from one of the other libraries in the system. Everyone is invited to join the group in discussing this book. The event is sponsored by Friends of Princeton Public Library.
Bake sale
PRINCETON — A bake sale sponsored by Friends of Strays will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Prouty Building. Pies, cakes, breads, cookies and other items will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go the Friends of Strays No Kill Shelter.
