Breakfast with Santa

PRINCETON — Colonial Hall Care Center in Princeton will hold a Breakfast with Santa from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 13. A light breakfast will be served, and there will be crafts for the kids and pictures with Santa. To register, call Lou Anne Kenwick or Michelle Philhower at (815) 875-3347.

Bake and soup sale

CHERRY — Holy Trinity Church in Cherry will host a bake and soup sale from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today, Saturday, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday in the church hall on Main Street. A raffle and turkey give-away, along with soup, antipasta, cookies, fudge, candy and more, will be available. For more information, call (815) 894-2006.

Thanksgiving dinner

PRINCETON — A free community Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Hope Church of the Nazarene, 30 N. Sixth St., Princeton. The menu will include turkey, kernal corn, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. Reserva-tions would be appreciated and may be done by calling (815) 875-1900. Radio Club meeting

PRINCETON — The Red Covered Bridge Amateur Radio Club will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Princeton Fire Depart-ment Training Room.

Madrigal dinner

PRINCETON — The Princeton High School Madrigal Singers will present their annual madrigal dinner in a setting of the royal court of King Henry and Queen Caterina on Dec. 6 and 7 in Shoemake Hall at the Bureau County Metro Center in Princeton. Saturday’s performance will be at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s performance will be at 1 p.m. Tickets and reservation forms are available in the main office of Princeton High School or from any cast member. Tickets are $20.

Toys for kids sign-up

MINERAL — The Tri-County Detachment of the Marine Corps League will have a sign-up for toys for  needy kids from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Mineral American Legion Post on E. Main St.

Annual workshop

SPRING VALLEY —  Project Success of Eastern Bureau County Inc. is in need of toys to benefit about 400 children whose parents will participate in “Santa’s Workshop” to be held from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 6.

“Santa’s Workshop,” a by invitation only event, will benefit children in Cherry, Ladd, Spring Valley, Dalzell, DePue, Seatonville and Hollowayville.

Drop-off locations are at the Spring Valley City Bank, Curves in Spring Valley, North Central Bank in Ladd, Locker Room, State Bank of Cherry and Citizen’s Bank in Spring Valley and DePue.

Toys for children preschool to 18 are needed. The toys will be collected by volunteers and taken to the workshop for setup. Donations may also be brought to 500 N. Terry St. or dropped at Spring Valley City Bank. The deadline is Dec. 5. All donations are tax deductible.

Meeting set

PRINCETON — Professional Home Economists of Bureau County will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Ed and Ginny Morris, north of Ohio. The Morrises will explain how they planned their energy efficient sod home and give a tour. Lois Dremann and Carol McGee will be assistant hostesses. Thanksgiving dinner

PRINCETON — The Evangelical Covenant and St. Louis Catholic churches in Princeton will hold their eighth annual free Thanksgiving dinner for anyone who may be spending Thanksgiving alone from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 N. Main St., Princeton. Reservations are requested by Monday by calling the ECC church office at (815) 875-2124. Transportation and carryouts will be available. Walk-ins are welcome.

Christmas lunch

PRINCETON — The Princeton Red Hats will have its Christmas lunch at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at the Elks Lodge. Members are reminded to bring a re-gift and two dozen of their favorite cookies.
