
Polte, Monier receive all-conference recognitionBy Kevin Hieronymuskhieronymus@bcrnews.comKelsey Polte has taken her volleyball game east on Interstate 80 and is excelling for Saint Francis University this season. The St. Francis junior setter out of Spring Valley Hall was named to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-conference team. Polte played in all 152 games. 42 matches for the Saints, averaging 9.64 assists a game. She led the team with 46 aces and totaled 144 kills, Teammate Elaina Ambler of Mendota received honorable mention. The Saints were second in the CCAC behind undefeated Olivet Nazarene and a 21-21 overall record. Football • Augustana senior free safety Brad Monier of Walnut was named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin second team. The former Bureau Valley Storm quarterback battled through an injury-plagued season to post 29 tackles, an interception, three pass deflections and a force fumble. • Garrett Barnas and the Harper Hawks will be playing Phoenix College in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in Phoenix on Dec. 6. The Hawks won the Region IV championship by defeating the College of DuPage 41-6. Basketball • Kailey Klein is picking up where she left off last year, averaging 18.5 ppg in her first two games for Cleveland State University in the preseason WNIT action. She had 23 in Tuesday’s 76-67 win at home over Eastern Michigan. The junior guard had 14 points in CSU’s opener at No. 17 Arizona State. Klein got a homecoming game of sorts when the Lady Vikings (1-1) met Illinois State in WNIT play in Muncie, Ind. The all-conference player remains the cover girl for CSU’s Web page for season ticket sales. • Putnam County graduate Carlton Fay scored 17 points for Southern Illinois University in an 83-58 loss to 10th ranked Duke in New York City Thursday night. |
