
Created: Tuesday, December 2, 2008 12:00 a.m. CDT Updated: Wednesday, May 20, 2009 5:46 a.m. CDT Julie MarcumPRINCETON — Julie Joyce Marcum, 72, of Princeton, formerly of Tiskilwa, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at her home. Born Oct. 3, 1936, in Princeton to James and Frieda (Osborne) Cassidy, she married John Arnold Moreland Aug. 1, 1954, in Princeton. They divorced. She then married Philip Raymond Marcum April 15, 1961, in Princeton. He died Jan. 30, 2001. She worked as a bookkeeper at Bureau County Grain Co., Bureau Service Co., Allen Lumber Co. and Allen Kitchen Mart. She worked as a librarian at Tiskilwa Township Library for 19 years and was the Arispie Township clerk for 25 years. She also worked as an election judge for many years. She was a member of the Tiskilwa Yoked Parish for more than 40 years. Over the years she served as a lay leader, and served on the Board of Trustees, Pastor/Parish Relations Committee, Come, Pray and Renew and the Worship Committee. She enjoyed doing children sermons. One of her joys was music. She was a member of her church choir for many years and was also in a church quartet. She was a member of the chorus in the Festival 56 production of “Oklahoma” and also in the 2006 Homestead musical. She especially enjoyed working with children at the library. Her best moments were spent with her family and one of her greatest pleasures was spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved playing cards with her friends and Scrabble with anyone who would play. After retirement, she worked one day a week for Illinois Cancer Care at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley. She liked to talk to the patients and their families and give them hope. Surviving are two children, Paul (Cara) Marcum of White Heath, Ill., and Janice (Larry) Magnuson of Tiskilwa; five grandchildren, Keith and Dawn Magnuson, and Sierra, McKenzie and Cassidy Marcum; and one sister, Gloria June (Don) Mathias of Moro, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Tiskilwa Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Abel officiating. Burial will be in Mount Bloom Cemetery, Tiskilwa. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice; Vitas Hospice, 105 Marquette St., Suite A, LaSalle, IL 61301; Tiskilwa Community Church; or Chaddock Children’s Home, 205 S. 24th Street, Quincy, IL 62301.
