Miklavic, Red Devils take third at Seneca

Ben Miklavcic and the Hall Red Devils continued to roll in the Seneca Thanksgiving Tournament.

After scoring 26 points in Friday’s win over Hinckley-Big Rock, Miklavcic came back with a game-high 28 points in the Red Devils’ 63-50 win over Somonauk to take home the third-place trophy.

Miklavcic had nine points in the second and fourth quarters. Teammate Noel Santiago added 17 points for the Red Devils’ winning effort. Both were honored as members of the Seneca all-tournament team.

The Red Devils jumped out to a seven-point lead, 15-8 after the first quarter and never looked back.

A big factor in Hall’s win was its decided advantage at the free-throw line. Hall converted 15 of 23 free throws (65 percent) to Somonauk’s four of ten. The disparity at the charity stripe counted for 11 of the 13 point final score differential.

Girls’ basketball

St. Bede 50, Belvidere 34: Led by 25 points from senior center Samantha Galas, the Lady Bruins finished off the DeKalb Thanksgiving Tournament with a win over Belvidere, 50-34.

After leading by seven at half, St. Bede had a big third quarter, outscoring the Bucs 16-2 in the frame to put things out of reach.

In addition to the 25-point outing from Galas, Ashley Pearson netted nine points, and Abby Toraason chipped in 8 for the Lady Bruins, who went 2-3.

Wrestling

At Geneseo: The Princeton wrestling team competed in a quad meet in Geneseo Saturday, dropping all three contests to opponents Geneseo (68-12), Peoria Woodruff (60-18), and Rock Falls (49-30).

One of the bright spots for the Tigers was senior Matt McClure, who secured victories via pins on all three of his opponents at 152 pounds. Another big winner for Princeton was 135-pounder Reiter Bird, who earned fall victories over his opponents from Rock Falls at 1:50, and Peoria Woodruff at 1:06. Also victorious for Princeton was Kyle Lilley at 119 pounds, who registered a pin over his Rock Falls opponent at 1:15.

PHS returns home Tuesday.
