Beth Colmone, aquatics director for the Bureau County Metro Center, said participants range in age from teenagers to 60 years old. They include married couples, single people, parents with children and some past Thin to Win contestants. Participants come from Princeton, Sheffield, Tiskilwa, Manlius, Wyanet, Walnut, Kasbeer, New Bedford and Ohio. The 2009 Thin to Win program begins Jan. 5 with all participants meeting for an individual weigh-in and group photograph, Colmone said. In January, each participant will receive a free monthly membership with half-price nursery fees. If participants choose to take any extra classes or work with a personal trainer, they will be responsible for those fees. “Everyone will have to work hard and fight for their position on the Thin to Win team,” Colmone said. “By the end of January, we will have our Top 12, based on the most percentage of weight loss.” In addition to the free Metro Center memberships and half-price nursery, the Top 12 will also receive free group classes and be able to work with the Metro’s personal trainers. “Thin to Win is going to be interesting to watch this year because we are having some special twists to the program,” Colmone said. “We will have weekly challenges and an immunity will be won each week. And, someone will also lose their spot on the Top 12 each week.” Without going into too much detail, Colmone said all participants, including all the original group, will be encouraged to stay with the program. There are some incentives and unexpected turns ahead, she said. “This year’s Thin to Win is going to keep everyone on their toes,” Colmone said. Though the official sign-up deadline has already passed for Thin to Win, Colmone said the staff has agreed to continue accepting applications. The idea is to get as many people as possible participating and working toward healthier lifestyles, she said. “There’s never a better time to start than in January,” Colmone said. “The holidays are over, and everyone’s talking about their New Year’s resolutions. Getting fit and healthier is one of the best resolutions a person can have.” The 2009 Thin to Win program is co-sponsored by the Bureau County Metro Center and the Bureau County Republican. “We’re very excited about this year’s Thin to Win program,” said BCR Editor Terri Simon. “The Metro Center has again put together a fabulous program, and I’m hoping several people will take advantage of it. As always, the goal behind Thin to Win is to develop healthier lifestyles, and I’m excited everyone starts off this contest with the same opportunities.” Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com. |
