Contested council race in PrincetonBy Donna Barkerdbarker@bcrnews.comPRINCETON — Princeton voters will have a contested race this spring for positions on the Princeton City Council. On Tuesday, Princeton City Clerk Clyde Wray said Incumbents Bob Warren and Terry Madsen and newcomer Jerry Neumann have filed candidate positions for two, four-year term seats on the Princeton City Council. Warren was first appointed to the council to fill a vacancy in June 1999. He was elected to a four-year term in April 2001 and has been on the council since. Madsen is completing his first term. Neumann is the former mayor of Manlius and now lives in Princeton. Also on the April 7, 2009, ballot for Princeton voters is one, two-year term to fill the seat vacated by Commissioner Jack Pettee, who has moved from the area. In September, the council appointed Joni Hunt to fill Pettee’s vacancy until the next election. Hunt has filed a candidate’s petition for election to that seat. No other petitions have been filed for that seat. Wray said the filing period for candidates petition closed Dec. 15. Petitions were due in Princeton early compared to other cities because Princeton is a non-partisan commission form of government. According to information from the Bureau County Clerk’s office, candidate petitions for other open elected positions, including cities and villages councils and school board seats, can be filed Jan. 19-26. Among the county mayors whose positions are up for election this spring are DePue President Don Bosnich Jr., Arlington Mayor Richard Koch, Bureau President Tim Shipp, Dover Mayor David Walters, Spring Valley Mayor James Narczewski, Tiskilwa Mayor Randy Philhower, Walnut President Gary Brooks and Wyanet Mayor John Gordon. Also, a total of 51 public school board seats will be up for election in the spring. |
