SPRING VALLEY — The Illinois Student Assistance Commission recently announced that of this year’s 2008-09 State Scholars, 10 are students at Hall High School. These students are Toni Colmone, daughter of Doug and Teresa Colmone of Spring Valley; Chris Hahne, son of Beth Hahne of Spring Valley and Mike Hahne of LaSalle; Meaghan Hendricks, daughter of Stuart and Kelly Hendricks of Cherry; Brandon Kingry, son of Marc and Candi Kingry of Ladd; Tony Kinkin, son of Pat and Patti Kinkin of Spring Valley; Nicole Kruse, daughter of Mike and Kelly Kruse of Spring Valley; Liz Macias, daughter of Jose and Obdulia Macias of Ladd; Brian Nolasco, son of Raymond and Susan Nolasco of Spring Valley; Richard Parsons, son of Jerilynn and Kevin Visocky of Spring Valley; and Carly Prokup, daughter of Bob and Diane Prokup of Spring Valley. Although program participation by high schools is voluntary, nearly all participate and Illinois’ top students elect to have test scores and high school class ranks sent to ISAC for consideration in this popular program. About 10 percent of Illinois’ high school seniors are designated state scholars and receive a certificate of achievement for the accomplishment.
In order to enter the competition, high school students must take the ACT and/or SAT I college entrance examination between Sept. 1 and June 30 of their junior year of high school and have the scores sent to ISAC. Generally, selection of state scholars is based on a combination of their test scores and their class rank at the end of the junior year. Nearly all will continue their education after high school. Of the Hall students named Illinois State Scholars, Colmone plans to attend a four-year university and major in communications; Hahne plans to major in environmental engineering at University of Illinois or Wisconsin; Hendricks plans to attend Full Sail University to study graphic design and music business with the intentions of opening a recording studio with Brandon Kingry, who plans to attend Full Sail but will study recording arts and music business; Kinkin plans to attend IVCC and then transfer to the University of Iowa; Kruse plans to attend the University of Iowa and major in business administration and minor in finance; Macias plans to attend a four-year university and major in English; Nolasco plans to attend a four-year college and study pre-law with hopes to continue his baseball career in college along with getting a solid education that will provide him with not only a means of living, but also life-long job satisfaction; Parsons plans to attend Columbia College in Chicago to get his bachelor’s in music business management, then hopefully work in a marketing/promotions department for a record label; and Prokup will attend the University of Wisconsin at Parkside where she will play basketball.
