Maurice BarryBLOOMINGTON — Maurice J. Barry, 91, of Bloomington, and formerly of Sublette, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Heritage Manor in Bloomington. Born Dec. 7, 1917, in Chicago to Michael and Hannah (O’Connor) Barry, he married Dorothy Clasby Nov. 21, 1939, in Chicago. She died July 27, 2000. He had been employed as a purchasing agent at Allied Locke Industries in Dixon prior to retirement. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as a tail gunner on a B-29 Bomber in the 884th Bomb Squadron. He was a member of the VFW. Surviving are five children, Donna (Frank) Griffin of Hobe Sound, Fla., Dorothy (Tony) Scrementi of Homewood, Ill., Denise Ernst of Buda, Dawn (Wayne) Henderson of Amboy and Maurice (Melinda) Barry Jr. of Secor; three brothers, Jim (Toni) Barry of Chicago, Jerry (Joan) Barry of Sarasota, Fla., and Tom Barry of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Dorothy Guistie of Lamont; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, and three sisters, Nora Miller, Helen Morris and Peggy Bennett. A prayer service was held Jan. 2 in Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, Amboy, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, with the Rev. Carl Beekman officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Amboy American Legion, was in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation was held Jan. 2 in the funeral home.
