Device allows smokers to enjoy smoking without problemsBy Lyle Ganther lganther@bcrnews.com
HOLLOWAYVILLE — Debra Genzlinger of Hollowayville, who has smoked for 38 years, has found a product she touts as having all the pleasures of smoking without all the problems. Njoy, a smoking alternative device for cigarette and cigar smokers, is a new product on the market that Genzlinger has been an independent representative for the last few months. "Nicotine doesn't hurt you," she said. "The tar and chemicals in cigarettes are bad for you." Njoy allows a person to get smaller amounts of nicotine through a battery-powered device that makes it healthier for the smoker than traditional cigarettes or cigars. "A lot of people like me don't want to give up smoking," she said. "You can smoke it anywhere, but you have to tell the manager at a restaurant before you use it." "It is an electronic smoking device and isn't harmful," she added. "Smoking helps me to relax." "I found this, and my doctor approves me using it after I explained it to him," she said. "I am down to three real cigarettes a day. I never knew how much I smoked before because I would light one up and put it down, and it would burn down without me smoking it because I would get involved in something and forget about it." Njoy replicates the sensation of smoking using a series of replaceable cartridges that carry little or no nicotine, and a variety of flavors that simulate tobacco taste such as regular "tobacco" and menthol flavors to fruit flavors, a company brochure states. The device comes in shapes replicating the dimensions of a standard cigar and cigarette. When a person uses Njoy, the act of inhaling (smoking) produces the tactile and craving satisfactions traditional smokers seek, and triggers a vaporizing process that releases simulated smoke, which is actually a vapor mist that evaporates into the air within a few seconds. The benefits of this device are no first- or second-hand smoke, no carcinogens or tar, virtually odorless, non-flammable and convenient, satisfies nicotine cravings, "tobacco-like" taste with various flavors, replicates behavioral and physical smoking pleasures and doesn't isolate a smoker. "It is cheaper than cigarettes in the long run and is healthy for me and others," she said. A starter pack costs $80, and Genzlinger has sold them at flea markets at the Bureau County Fairgrounds in Princeton, plus Burlington and Iowa City in Iowa. "It is an awesome product," she said. "I really believe in it." Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com. |
