ANNAWAN — The Annawan CUSD 226 was recently notified and congratulated by the Illinois State Board of Education on receiving the 2008 Academic Excellence Award for Annawan Grade School.

Across the state of Illinois a total of 388 schools earned the award. Annawan Grade school was one of 296 elementary schools that earned the award out of 2,585 total elementary schools in the state of Illinois.

To earn an Academic Excellence Award, an elementary school must have at least 90 percent of its students meet or exceed state standards on the ISAT reading and math tests for at least three consecutive years.

While a difficult award to receive, this is an award   earned by the students, but the whole Annawan school district community has a part in receiving it. This is an award that is a tribute to the present and past outstanding dedicated teachers, staff and administration, the Board of Education for providing the tools to support academic excellence, the overall supportive parents and community members and the Annawan, Mineral and Hooppole communities that comprise the District.
