MANLIUS — Nine students from Bureau Valley High School participated in the Abraham Lincoln Book Award Contest. Six of those students read four or more titles from the 22 nominated books and voted for the winner. The school winner was “Such a Pretty Girl” by Laura Wiess, and the state winner was “Crank” by Ellen Hopkins. All voters received a free book of their choosing for participating.
Angela Smith read all 22 titles to receive the Double Deuce Award from Illinois School and Library Media Association. She is the first student from Bureau Valley High School to ever accomplish this.
