IVCC accepts Scroggs' resignation
OGLESBY — The Illinois Valley Community College Board Wednesday accepted with regret the resignation of trustee Lori Scroggs of Princeton.
Scroggs, a Bradley University professor who prepares students for leadership roles in the nonprofit sector, said in her letter of resignation, "For the past four years, I have juggled the requirements of two higher education institutions: IVCC and Bradley University.
"Recently, I have had several opportunities for service projects with nonprofit organizations and schools within the Peoria area. It would be unfair to my students, and unwise within my research agenda to ignore such opportunities, yet to add them to my board service has become challenging. It is difficult both literally and figuratively to 'travel' between these two institutions.
"It sounds too simple to say that I must choose between IVCC and Bradley University, yet I feel that this is where I am. I do not rule out working with the college or foundation in some other capacity in the future, as my heart will always be with the exceptional faculty, staff, administration and board members of IVCC."
Scroggs came to IVCC as a part-time psychology instructor, was named division chair for social sciences and later director of development. She was appointed to the board in 2005 and elected in 2007.
Last summer, she created a foundation endowment in honor of her late parents, Herb and Eleanor, to fund learning opportunities for IVCC faculty.
The board formed a committee Wednesday that will consider candidates to fill the remaining two years of Scroggs's term. Candidates have until April 10 to apply.
