
Red Devils shut out KewaneeBy BCR Sports StaffSPRING VALLEY — The host Red Devils started off strong, plating three runs in the first inning, and kept on rolling, adding five more runs as they shut out Kewanee 8-0 on Thursday in Spring Valley. Leading the way at the plate for Hall was pitcher Wes Herrmann, who was a perfect 2-2 with a double and a home run. Nick Rounds also had a good day at the dish for the Red Devils (5-3, 2-0), going 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Herrmann picked up the win for Hall, allowing only three hits over five scoreless innings of work. The senior struck out six Boilermakers and gave up five walks for the Hall win over NCIC Lincoln foe Kewanee. Softball Kewanee 8, Hall 2: The Lady Boilermakers jumped out to 4-0 lead in the first two innings, and held on to top NCIC Lincoln foe Hall 8-2, at Kewanee on Thursday. Sara Smoode led the way batting for Hall, going 2-4 with one RBI, and Monica Mackey also went 2-4 with an RBI. Lauren Dubay picked up the win pitching for Kewanee, notching 10 strikeouts while giving up six hits and two walks. Johnna Schultz was the losing pitcher for Hall (3-4-1), tallying three strikeouts while giving up 11 hits and three walks. St. Bede 4, Fieldcrest 1: The Lady Bruins did their scoring late in the game, breaking open a scoreless tie with two runs in the sixth, and adding two more in the seventh for the win on Thursday in Minonk. Mindy Taliani earned the win for St. Bede, allowing one run over seven innings of work while tallying four strikeouts and allowing only five Fieldcrest hits. Anna Perino was St. Bede’s leading batter, going 2-4, and Britney Burkart went 1-4 with a double and two RBI for the Lady Bruins win. Serena 4, LaMoille/Ohio 1: Courtney Loomis drove in Chelsea Gross with two outs in the fourth to tally the Lady Lions sole run Thursday in LaMoille. Gross picked up the loss pitching, giving up four runs on nine hits over seven innings of work. Gross notched three strikeouts and gave up only one walk. |
