UTICA — The annual “Honor the Eagle Pow Wow” will be May 16 and 17 at Matthiessen State Park (River Entrance). The event was moved because of recent flooding and the possibility of flooding in May at Starved Rock State Park.

The fifth annual “Honor the Eagle Pow Wow” will kick-off May 16 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and continue from noon to 5 p.m. on May 17. The stunning Grand Entry will begin promptly at Noon and 6 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The highlights of the event include cultural presentations, storytelling and traditional Native American dances and drum circles hosted by Midwest SOARRING Foundation. Guests are invited to view and purchase the artisan products, Indian crafts and jewelry as well as handcrafted souvenirs. Throughout the weekend there will be Pow Wow areas dedicated to children's games and crafts. Trolley transport from Starved Rock Lodge to Matthiessen State Park will be available throughout the day for $1.

A free master woodcarvers' exhibit will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the grassy knoll across from the east parking lot at Starved Rock Lodge.
