Bennett, a Republican from Neponset, represented District 26 on the county board. • Appointed Daniel Rabe of rural Princeton to fill the District 13 board seat vacated by the recent resignation of Pete Swanson. • Presented plaques of appreciation to Lyle Schrader for his 10 years of service on the Bureau County Regional Planning Commission and to Wilbur Giltner for his 20 years of service on the Bureau County Regional Planning Commission. • Appointed Jerry Stocking as a trustee for the Mineral-Gold Fire Protection District. Reappointed Gary Ehnle as a trustee to the Buda Fire Protection District and Richard Nauman as a trustee to the Ladd Fire Protection District. • Appointed John Baracani to fill the unexpired term of Al Quartucci on the Bureau County Housing Authority Board. Reappointed Dan Whitlock to the Bureau County Housing Authority Board. • Defeated a motion by Rick Wilkin to approve a settlement agreement with the Teamsters Union. The motion was defeated on a 2 yes, 22 no vote. Voting in favor of the motion were Wilkin and Tom Dobrich. Absent were board members Bennett and Rob Pozzi. • Hired engineers Willett Hoffman and Associates to handle the process for needed repair work in the courthouse basement. The $73,500 cost will include Willett Hoffmann’s services as well as the actual repair work. • Hired Midwest Environmental Services, at a cost of $1,200, to take samples and do analysis of the asbestos at the county-owned house south of the jail. • Approved a proclamation to recognize May 3-9 as National Correctional Officers Week. • Approved a $4,000 request from the Bureau County Senior Center for the current fiscal year and a $20,000 request from the University of Illinois Extension Program for the 2010 fiscal year. • Hired LaPorte Mowing Service of Princeton to do mowing/lawn care work for the county at a low bid of $6,500. • After closed session, the board honored the late Al Quartucci, former county board member and community leader of many years. Board member Joe Bassetti led the board in its recognition of Quartucci. • Approved a recommendation from board member Mary Jane Marini to present a certificate of honor to the Neponset Elementary School District for recently receiving both an Academic Excellence Award and a Spotlight Award from the Illinois State Board of Education. • Approved a resolution from Rick Wilkin urging the passage of a comprehensive capital infrastructure program in the 2009 state legislative session. |
