Christine PhillipsOHIO, Ill. — Christine Phillips, 85, formerly of Ohio, Ill., died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Born Feb. 16, 1924, in Louisville, Ky., to Ellis and Lissie (Elmore) Underwood, she married David “Bliss” Phillips March 10, 1946, in Princeton. He died April 9, 2007. She worked a number of years at Harper-Wyman in Princeton and then at Kraft Cheese in Manlius. She was last employed at Borg-Warner in Dixon, retiring in 1986. Surviving are one daughter, Connie (George) Allen of Ohio, Ill.; two sons, James (Cathy) Phillips of Hennepin and Bradley Phillips of Ohio, Ill.; three brothers, Merrill Underwood of Princeton, Eunice Underwood of Decatur and Clell Underwood of Beloit, Wis.; eight granddaughters, Kathy Allen, Jenny Heidenreich, Amanda Petersen, Melissa Shepherd, Michelle Transou, Amy Darrah, Joleen Burton and Angela Celaya; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, with the Rev. Brian Caughlan, pastor of Hennepin United Methodist Church, officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded after the services and burial of cremains will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. |
