Bertetto to run for sheriff in 2010
PRINCETON — Joe Bertetto of Sheffield has announced his Republican candidacy for the office of Bureau County Sheriff.
The position of Bureau County Sheriff will be elected on the November 2010 ballot. The office is currently held by John Thompson, a Democrat from Ladd.
On Thursday, Bertetto listed his qualifications for the office of sheriff, including his more than 20 years with the U.S. Marine Corps and 16 years in law enforcement in California.
“I sincerely believe that the leadership tools from my career in the U.S. Marine Corps and the administrative tools from my carer in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department are exactly what are needed to correct the current situation in the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department,” Bertetto said.
Bertetto is also a member of the Bureau County Board and serves as co-chairman of the Bureau County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (BCCJCC). He also serves on the county’s Law and Assessment Committee and the Buildings and Grounds Committee, as well as being the county board representative to the Bureau County Emergency Communication (BuEComm) Board.
When asked about his candidacy and his position on the BCCJCC, Bertetto said he hopes to remain on the committee. He has a lot of knowledge in jail design and needs, he said.
Bertetto and his wife, Joann, have lived in Sheffield for the past three years.
