Agnes Thulean

PEORIA — Agnes P. Thulean, 90, of Peoria died at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the home of her son.

She was born May 11, 1918, in Chicago to Andrew and Alida (Anderson) Peterson. Both of her parents died when she was young, so at the age of 11 she went to live at the Covenant Children’s Home in Princeton with her sister, Signe. She stayed there until she graduated from Princeton High School in 1936. She married R. Howard Thulean Feb. 14, 1943, in Princeton. He died July 23, 1999, in Peoria.

She worked in the Admissions Office of Bradley University for 25 years.

She was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school for 62 years in the 3-year-old department and was a member of the church’s Mother’s Club, Pioneer Girls and the Widow’s Club.

Surviving are two children, Richard (Debra) Thulean of Peoria and Sylvia Ropp of Peoria; five grandchildren, Scott (Heather) Thulean of Chillicothe, Daniel Ropp of Elgin, Theresa Davis of Aurora, Jennifer (Darrell) Rains of Plymouth, Ind., and Julie (Perry) Ling of Columbus, Ohio; seven great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter; one brother, Arthur Peterson; one sister, Signe Nelson; and one son-in-law, William Ropp.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 3100 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, with the Revs. Robert Donaldson and Richard Springsteen officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilton Mortuary, 2101 N. Knoxville Ave., Peoria, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to OSF Hospice or Grace Presbyterian Church, 3-year-old Sunday School Department.
