Louis Mignone

SPRING VALLEY — Louis A. Mignone, 87, of 834 W. Dakota St., Spring Valley, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Spring Valley Nursing Center in Spring Valley.

Born Aug. 30, 1921, in Spring Valley to John and Mary (Zucca) Mignone, he married Velda Bradford Nov. 23, 1950. She died June 22, 1983.

He worked at Sampsel Building in Spring Valley for 44 years as a machinist until retiring. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany with the 134th Medical Regiment with General Patton and General Bradley. He graduated from Hall High School in 1939 and from L.P.O. Junior College, and attended the University of Illinois.

He was a member of the Spring Valley American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy (William) Micheli of Gurnee and Beth (Richard) Cruz of Spring Valley; two brothers, Richard and Paul Mignone of Spring Valley; three sisters, Margaret Volpe of Dalzell, Angie (Jack) Truckenbrod of West Brooklyn and Louise Potter of Iowa; a special friend, Ruth Fieldman of Mendota; four grandchildren, Michael and Brian Micheli, and Megan and Vanessa Cruz; and four great-grandchildren, Blair, Gina, Grace and Tess Micheli.

He was also preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.

Services will be at noon Thursday at the Barto Funeral Home, Spring Valley, with the Rev. Michael Monclova officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the funeral home, with an American Legion service at 11:30 a.m.
