Safety Town set

PRINCETON — Registration for this year’s Princeton Junior Woman’s Club’s Safety Town will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Prouty Building. Children ages 4 and 5 by June 1 are eligible to participate in the program. Only 40 spots are available, so registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Teen helpers interested in obtaining service hours should report at this time as well. Cookout

WYANET — B.E.S.T. will host a cookout at the Wyanet Locker from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Fundraiser set

PRINCETON — Boy Scout Troop 1063 will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 at Italian Express, 924 N. Main St. in Princeton. The menu will include spaghetti, garlic bread and a drink. The cost is $6 per person. Participants may dine in or carry out; dining room only will be all you can eat. Proceeds will go toward an adventure trek at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Collection changes

PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will no longer collect Campbell’s soup/food labels. However they will continue to collect Box Tops for Education coupons and aluminum pull rings of all sizes. Donations may be dropped off at the Legion’s post home at 1549 W. Peru St. in Princeton, or call (815) 872-7891 in the evenings.

Flea market

PRINCETON — A Mother’s Day flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bureau County Fairgrounds. Some items include jams, jellies, artwork, glassware, tools and antiques. Admission is $1 for adults.

PTO fundraiser

SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley Elementary PTO will host a fundraiser at the Valley Bar and Grill from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. A $6 ticket will purchase 1/4 light of dark chicken and fries or chicken strips and fries. There will also be a bake sale and 50/50 drawing. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the schools’ offices, Valley Bar and Grill and Summit Heating and Air Conditioning. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Carryouts will be available.

Genealogy guild

LASALLE — The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will meet at 1 p.m. May 16 at the Guild Library, 115 W. Glover St. in Ottawa. The speakers will be Pete and Debbie Snook.

Poppy Days

PRINCETON — Members to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will conduct their annual Poppy Days campaign on May 21-23 at various locations in Princeton. The public is asked to be generous with donations this year as the need is even greater, due to wounded troops coming home from the Middle East and Africa theaters of battle as well as other places in the world who need military support.
