Lady Red Devils capture NCIC F/S crown

The Hall fresh-soph girls captured the NCIC Lincoln track and field championship Tuesday in Geneseo behind a strong effort from Brigitte Klein. Princeton finished third.

Leading the way for the Lady Red Devils was Klein who placed first in both the shot put (32-7) and discus (105-10), as well as the triple jump (30-11). Jenna Sobin was a winner for Hall, clearing the bar at 4-10 for a win in the high jump. Following Klein’s lead was Kelle Nett, who took silver in the shot put (30-4) and discus (89-9).

Hall also had a good day with their relays, with Amber Huffaker, Sobin, Liz Mosbach, and Chlesea Wallaert combining to win the 400 relay (54.45). Sobin, Huffaker, Mosbach and Hillary Klein also came together for a win in the 800 relay (1:57.23), and in the 1600 relay Wallaert, Klein, and Mosbach teamed up with Ally Perez to blow away the competition with a time of 4:35, 15 seconds ahead of second-place Rock Falls.

Princeton’s Laura Fredenhagen continued her meteoric progression in the pole vault, clearing 8-6 to set a new meet record, despite only vaulting for the past several weeks. C.J. Rhodes won the mile with a time of 5:54.30, and placed second in the long jump (4-8), Jade Atkinson bested the field in the 300 meter hurdles, crossing the line first with a time of 53.9.

PHS’ 3200 relay squad of Kara Birch, Rhodes, Emma Makransky, and Allie Youngren set a PHS meet best with a time of 11:06.2, and Princeton’s 400 (55.2) and 800 relay (1:57.9) squads picked up second-place finishes.
