Driscoll appointed to IVCC Board of Trustees

OGLESBY — Dr. Michael Driscoll of Ottawa, senior process development engineer for Carus Chemical Corporation, has been appointed to the open position on the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees.

Driscoll will fill a two-year term resulting from the March 10 resignation of trustee Lori Scroggs of Princeton. Driscoll’s term will run through the next trustee election in April 2011.

"The IVCC Board must be committed to world class education and continuous improvement of the curriculum,” Driscoll said in his application letter to the board. “By distinguishing IVCC academically, it will drive enrollment and provide educational services to more of our community.”

“As university costs continue to rise beyond the financial means of many, IVCC can provide a vital link for many,” he said. “I am a lifelong learner and I believe I can make positive contributions to the board.”

Prior to joining Carus in 2008, Driscoll, a licensed professional engineer, worked in a variety of technical and leadership roles for G.E. Plastics in Ottawa (1991-2008) and Quantum Chemical Corporation in Tuscola (1981-1991). He has had three articles published in international journals.

A native of Chicago, he earned undergraduate degrees in mathematics and chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and his master’s and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

An active community presence in the Ottawa area, Driscoll has led numerous initiatives including the Ottawa Area United Way Campaign, Marquette High School May Merriment, Community Food Basket Building construction, the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick’s Grade School Education Commission. He is the St. Patrick’s Education Commission President and leads the school’s finance committee.

He and his wife of 27 years, Mary, have two daughters: Mary Ann, a graduate of the University of Illinois Pharmacy School; and Katie, a 2008 graduate of IVCC’s nursing program.
