Retired teachers meet

GALVA — Sixty Henry Stark Counties retired teachers met at McKay’s Grill in Galva for their second unit meeting of the year. First-timers Betsy Tocha and William Whalen were recognized, as well as co-president Phyllis Dotson for being selected for the Illinois Literacy Award for her volunteerism helping confined youth.

Co-president Sue Busenbark updated members on legislation in progress affecting the pension program. After the committee reports, $126 was donated to the Foundation and local expenses as a result of a raffle of taste treats prepared by Secretary Jean Mann and Vice President Jocie Saline.

Former Kewanee High School teacher/coach Frank Tocha gave an entertaining program on “The Power After Retirement” by highlighting his lyricist talents and the release of his first CD of songs available at the meeting and Heartfelt Gifts. He shared the inspiration that went into each song he shared and the highlights of his life and those around him.

Wednesday’s meeting will be at noon at P L Damron’s in Kewanee at the Tremont Forum.
