Sheriff is still
looking at
burglaries

MINERAL/MANLIUS — The Bureau County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into two burglaries that occurred in western Bureau County.

On Wednesday, Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson said his department received a call the morning of May 9 from Cheryl Duarte and Lloyd May, co-owners of The Wagon Wheel restaurant in Mineral, about a burglary that had occurred overnight. When coming into the business Saturday morning, the co-owners discovered electronic equipment taken and currency from a charitable donation can missing. The burglar(s) had also accessed and damaged electronic gaming devices in the building.

Thompson declined to give information on how entry was made into the building. Also, investigators have not yet been able to determine how many people were involved in the burglary.

Later in the day, the sheriff’s department received a call from Thomas G. Blanford, who reported a burglary in the early morning hours at Tillie’s Bar and Grill in Manlius.

Three video gaming machines were damaged and money taken from those machines. The machines had recently been emptied of currency prior to the burglary, Thompson said.

Again, Thompson declined to give further details on the ongoing investigation, but he did say investigators are looking at the Manlius and Mineral burglaries as being related because of the close timing and proximity of the two crimes.

Thompson said the sheriff’s department is also looking for similarities with burglaries in surrounding counties.

Anyone with any possible information into either burglary is asked to contact the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department or Bureau County CrimeStoppers.
