PMH Auxiliary awards scholarshipsPRINCETON — Perry Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has awarded $4,000 in scholarships to students from the area who are pursuing hospital related health careers. The students include Reid Baltikauski, Laura Blanford, Jason Bill, Caitlin Blaisdell, Matthew Galloway, Jolett Rod, Connie Scaggs, Bethany Schmidt, Victoria Sluis and Melissa Zehr. Baltikauski, a 2004 Hall High School graduate, is pursuing a doctorate of physical therapy at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. He is the son of David and Debra Baultikauski of Spring Valley. Blanford, a 2005 graduate of Bureau Valley High School, will pursue a degree in nursing at Illinois Valley Community College. She is a recipient of the Morine scholarship and the daughter of Paul Blanford and Kathy Blanford of Wyanet. Bill, a 2002 graduate of Bureau Valley High School, will be attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford. He is the son of Gary and Phyllis Bill. Blaisdell, a 2009 graduate of Bureau Valley High School, will pursue a degree in physical therapy at the University of Iowa. She is the daughter of James and Cheryl Blaisdell of Bradford. Rod, a 2009 graduate of LaMoille High School will pursue a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at Loyola University in Chicago. She is the daughter of Rodney and Cynthia Rod. Scaggs, a 1995 graduate of Putnam County High School, will attend Black Hawk College in Moline, pursuing an associate nursing degree. She will also receive a Morine scholarship. Scaggs and her husband, Jerry, and their three children live in Princeton. Schmidt, a 2003 graduate of Princeton High School, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has received her degree in molecular and cellular biology and has completed her second year at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago as a member of the class of 2011. Her interest is in becoming a doctor of OB/GYN. Sluis, a 2008 graduate of Princeton High School, will be studying forensic pathology at Illinois Valley Community College. She is the daughter of Craig and Dawn Sluis of Princeton. Zehr, a 2009 graduate of Princeton High School, is enrolled in the pre-physical therapy program at Goshen College in Goshen, Ind. She is the daughter of Calvin and Carol Zehr of Tiskilwa. The participants were to receive their awards at the Perry Memorial Auxiliary annual meeting and dinner June 18 at the hospital. |
